Solo
The Character Commute
Walk a real errand carrying one changed physical choice — a new walk, lead, or tempo — and let it suggest a person.
How to run it
- Before leaving the house, pick ONE physical change: lead from the chin, walk ten percent slower, keep your hands still.
- Do a real errand holding the choice. Don't act; just keep the change.
- Notice what the body suggests — what does a person who moves like this want? Fear? Order first at a counter?
- On the way back, let the character's inner monologue run silently.
- Home again, say one sentence out loud in their voice.
What it teaches
That character is built from behaviour outward, not biography inward. One committed physical choice generates opinions, history and voice on its own.
Coaching notes
Keep the change small enough that strangers don't notice. The exercise is private; the discovery is yours.
Where it usually goes wrong
Stacking five choices at once. One change observed closely beats a full costume of tics that can't be sustained past the first block.
