The Expert Minute

Sixty seconds as the world's leading authority on the nearest object, delivered with total confidence.

1 players · 3–6 minutes

How to run it

  1. Grab the nearest object or generate a one-word suggestion.
  2. Start a timer for one minute.
  3. Speak as the world's foremost expert on it — history, controversies, your rivals in the field. Invent everything; hesitate at nothing.
  4. When the timer ends, finish the sentence and stop.
  5. Do three objects. On the third, add a strong opinion the establishment disagrees with.

What it teaches

Confident invention. The audience never checks facts; they check conviction. This drill separates knowing from committing — improv only requires the second.

Coaching notes

Banish 'um' by replacing it with a slower, grander delivery. Experts pause like the silence belongs to them.

Where it usually goes wrong

Being funny on purpose. The comedy arrives from misplaced certainty; jokes about the object are a different, worse exercise.
