Premise Reps
Ten generated premises, ten first lines, out loud, no do-overs — reps for the exact moment beginners fear most.
How to run it
- Open the scene generator (app.allimprov.com/scenarios) and generate a whole scene.
- Say a first line for it out loud within three seconds. Not a good line — a line.
- Generate the next premise and repeat. Ten total.
- On the last three, add a second line: answer your own first line as the scene partner would.
What it teaches
That first lines are cheap. Producing ten mediocre openings on a timer does more than composing one perfect opening ever will — scenes die from hesitation, not from ordinary starts.
Coaching notes
If a line embarrasses you, say the next one louder. The rep count is the win condition; quality is a side effect that shows up around rep thirty across a week.
Where it usually goes wrong
Allowing retakes. The three-second deadline is the entire mechanism — with do-overs it becomes a writing exercise.
